New Deep-Sea Fishing Charters ‘Lady Raye’ in Apalachicola.

Apalachicola River, Apalachicola, Florida

One of Panama City’s favorite fishing charters is now offering Apalachicola Fishing Charters serving St. George Island, Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Eastpoint, and more.

Hook’em Up Charters (HUC) is, again, adding another boat to the family charter fishing fleet. The ‘Lady Raye’ has been owned by Capt. BJ Burkett since 2017. She is a 43 ft Torres that was built in south Florida as a charter boat and converted to commercial fishing before being purchased by Capt. BJ. Capt. BJ is now converting it again to be a charter boat, as well as, commercial fishing in the off-season.

She has an air-conditioned cabin, bathroom, bunks, and a microwave. While she does not have the yacht look, she is a fish-killing machine with all the accommodations to make your trip enjoyable and relaxing. She is powered by twin caterpillar diesels. The Lady Raye can accommodate up to 6 passengers and is one of the safest sea vessels in her class. The Lady Raye has been operated full-time by Capt. Jimbo Stevens as a commercial fishing vessel, going out and catching fish for restaurants and fish markets, who buy his catch, after returning from sea for days at a time. Captain Jimbo is one of the most well-known captains in our region. He has fished in this region for over 30 years. His knowledge of where to find the fish and how to catch them is irreplaceable! We have made the jump to start taking our clients out on this vessel starting June 1, 2023. The Lady Raye will be fishing out of beautiful Apalachicola, Florida. It is about 1.5 hours from Panama City Beach (PCB) and worth the drive to get to experience some excellent fishing.

Lady Raye Fishing Charter Vessel, Apalachicola, Florida

Apalachicola is pretty much a central point between several small vacation towns, St. George Island, Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, and Eastpoint, just to name a few. It is less than a 30-minute drive from all of these destinations. We decided to run the Lady Raye out of Apalachicola for a couple of different reasons:

  1. We have lots of return customers who vacation in the area and always travel to Panama City to fish with us.
  2. Capt. Jimbo knows the waters off of Apalachicola extremely well, (meaning he can put you on the fish!)
  3. Fishing can be extremely good in this area due to less fishing pressure from larger inlets such as PCB or Destin. To fish in the same great area Capt. Jimbo can fish on a day trip from Apalachicola would take a 2-day trip from PCB due to travel time. Less fishing pressure means more and bigger fish.
  4. Many of our return customers got to meet Capt. Jimbo on the ‘Hooked Up‘ this past season and want to fish with him again, (in his own back yard you could say).

The Lady Raye will be offering charter fishing trips from June 1st, through August 31st, 2023.

Capt. Jimbo Stevens, Lady Raye

We will only be offering all-day, full-day, or 2-day trips out of Apalachicola. The average all-day is 12 hours but maybe a little longer or shorter depending on the weather and how the fishing is going. Bottom fishing is the style of fishing we do on these trips where you can expect to catch several types of snapper, mackerel, sharks, grouper, and amberjack just to name a few. Regulations dictate what species you can actually bring home for dinner.

A full-day trip is for the serious fisherman. It can be either 18 or 24 hours. A 2-day trip is as good as it gets fishing-wise, (fish where only a chosen few people ever get to go!) On the full-day or 2-day trip we can offer blue water trolling as well as bottom fishing. If you choose a 2-day bottom-fishing trip you can have a 2-day bag limit!

Bluewater species that can be targeted in our area are tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, and barracuda with occasional marlin or swordfish. The Bluewater trips can be hit or miss, so, if action is what you are after bottom fishing would be your best bet. But if you want the shot at a trophy, you should try the Bluewater trips. Capt. Jimbo strives to put you on the best fish possible for your trip. It is a long ride to get to the fishing grounds, but it will be worth the wait! Once you get there the bite will be on!

For all our return customers just to give you an idea of the boat. The Lady Raye fishing vessel is 1 ft longer than the ‘Hooked Up’ and over 2ft wider. Plenty of room for groups of up to 6 people. She also has a full hard top that goes all the way to the stern so you can fish in the shade! As the refit is completed pictures will be added of the Lady Raye

The Lady Raye will be offering charter fishing trips from June 1st, through August 31st, 2023.
